The values

How the values work

Unbalanced Zen 2 (UBZ II) is attributed to George C. (1995). It takes a Zen-like / Revere-like value spread and unbalances it so the running count can be used without dividing by decks.

IRC is (decks − 1) × −4, same formula as KO.

The math

Running count, no true count

Start from the IRC

UBZ 2 is unbalanced. Start from the IRC. Do not convert to true count.

Initial running count = (number of decks − 1) × −4. Bet when the running count crosses the key count.

Efficiency

Why the numbers look like that

Level-two values with unbalanced betting math. BC is high; you still have more ranks than KO.

Practice UBZ 2 on iPhone

UBZ 2 is a Pro system. Practice uses the +2/−2 controls. Running Count starts from the IRC.

  • Memorize

Drill the UBZ 2 values until every rank is automatic.

  • Running Count

Start from the initial running count, then add every card as it comes off the shoe. IRC is (decks − 1) × −4.

  • IRC

No true-count conversion. Bet and play off the running count once it crosses the key count.
