The values
Hi-Opt II is the level-two successor to Hi-Opt I, associated with Lance Humble and Julian Braun. It stays ace-neutral. The extra +2/−2 ranks buy playing efficiency and insurance correlation at the cost of more mental work.
Published practice still uses an ace side count for betting, same idea as Hi-Opt I.
+2
4, 5
The most important low cards in this map.
+1
2, 3, 6, 7
Other small cards that still help when they leave.
0
A, 8, 9
Aces are side-counted. Eights and nines are neutral.
−2
10, J, Q, K
Tens. Twice the Hi-Opt I penalty.
Extra tracking
Aces stay outside the level-two running count. Side-count them for betting; use the primary true count for strategy.
Tally aces as they leave the shoe. Remaining aces versus remaining decks tells you when to raise the bet. The primary true count still drives playing deviations.
The math
Start at 0. The level-two values still balance over a full deck. Aces do not move the running count.
Divide by remaining decks for a true count. Side-count aces if you are using this as a betting count.
Efficiency
Level two shows up in the PE and IC. You pay for that with more ranks to keep straight under speed.
BC
91%
Betting correlation of 91% on the primary count — still short of Hi-Lo unless aces are side-counted.
PE
67%
Playing efficiency of 67%, among the strongest maps in the locker.
IC
91%
Insurance correlation of 91%. Tens at −2 are a loud insurance signal.

Drill the Hi-Opt II values until every rank is automatic.
Add every card as it comes off the shoe. Start at 0. A full deck returns to 0.
Divide the running count by remaining decks. Betting and deviations use this number.
